"Run for Autism Walkathon in Irinjalakuda promotes inclusivity and awareness for individuals with autism, led by Minister R. Bindu."
In a spirited display of solidarity and awareness, the “Run for Autism Walkathon” was flagged off by Minister for Social Justice R. Bindu on Tuesday, marking the State-level inauguration of World Autism Day observation.
The walkathon from Irinjalakuda Town Hall culminated at the Ayyankavu grounds, with participants radiating energy and purpose.
District panchayat president V.S. Prince was the chief guest. Students from institutions such as the Irinjalakuda BRC (Block Resource Centre), Pratheeksha Bhavan, and the NIPMR (National Institute for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) Special School participated, showcasing a spirit of inclusivity and support.
Dr. Bindu stressed the critical need for inclusive practices to integrate individuals with neurological conditions, including autism, into mainstream society. She highlighted the pivotal role of regional early intervention centres under the Social Justice department at medical colleges and district centres. These centres played a crucial role in early detection and providing specialised training to address challenges at the earliest stage.
Irinjalakuda municipality chairperson Marykutty Joy, former district panchayat president P.K. Davis, NIPMR Executive Director C. Chandrababu, Irinjalakuda General Hospital Superintendent Shivadasan, and St. Joseph’s College Principal Sister P.D. Siji participated.
Support from local self-governing bodies, Christ College, St. Joseph’s College, and Pratheeksha Bhavan added to the event’s grandeur, making it a powerful statement of community spirit and awareness.
The walkathon wasn’t just an event; it was a movement—a vibrant stride towards building a more inclusive and understanding society for individuals with autism.

A day after the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs filed its final complaint against T. Veena, daughter of Kerala Chief Minister and Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan, in the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) pay-off case, the CPI(M) rallied behind Mr. Vijayan in solidarity. But there appeared to be serious differences of opinion in the top leadership of the party on the way to approach the case.
