Disaster management squads on high alert in Kozhikode due to rough weather alerts, no incidents reported, fishermen advised to stay ashore.
Disaster management squads maintained a high vigil in Kozhikode district on Monday (December 2) following the rough weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). With a red alert in place, community rescue squads in landslide-prone villages stayed prepared under the instructions of the Revenue department.
Though heavy rain lashed out the city and rural areas on Monday evening, no incidents of natural calamities were reported to the district control room. Educational institutions operated as usual, though water-logged stretches on the Kozhikode bypass road caused inconvenience to motorists.
In the wake of Cyclone Fengal over northern Tamil Nadu, country boat operators were refrained from fishing. While a few ventured out early in the morning, adverse weather conditions forced their return within hours. An IMD update on Monday advised fishers to suspend all activities along the Kerala coast on Tuesday (December 3).
“Village officers have been directed to monitor rural areas, and all control rooms are active for public emergencies,” said a revenue department official from Koyilandy taluk. He added that by late evening, no complaints or requests for relief camps had been reported.
