Pope Francis: Western society has 'taken the wrong path' on assisted suicide, abortion

Pope Francis expressed grief at the eroding morals of Western civilization on Thursday aboard the papal airplane, saying society is going down the "wrong paths."

"It is true that the West degenerates," the pope told reporters. "It is not, at this moment, at the highest level of exemplariness […] The West has taken the wrong paths."

The comments come as several high-profile social issues dominate Western politics, including assisted suicide and abortion.
