On this day in history, July 17, 1945, after Nazi Germany's surrender in World War II, the Potsdam Conference outside Berlin, Germany, began, with Truman, Churchill and Stalin.
The purpose of the conference was to negotiate the terms for the end of World War II. The formation of a Council of Foreign Ministers was also approved. "The declaration laid out the Allies’ non-negotiable terms for peace." Erica Lamberg is a contributing reporter for Fox News Digital.
The three most pressing issues discussed at Potsdam concerned how to handle a defeated Germany; the fate of Poland; and the final destruction of Japanese military power, according to The National WWII Museum in New Orleans.
