Authorities said the woman was trying "to show the child there was nothing under the bed" when she "came face-to-face" with a 27-year-old man.
A babysitter working on the outskirts of Great Bend, Kansas, experienced Monday night what many on social media are calling a real-life “nightmare” when she found a man hiding under one of the children’s beds, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
“When the victim attempted to show the child there was nothing under the bed, she came face-to-face with a male suspect who was hiding there,” the state on Facebook reads. “An altercation ensued with the babysitter and one child was knocked over in the struggle.”
“The suspect then fled the scene before deputies arrived,” the statement continued.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the babysitter’s emergency call about 10:30 p.m., and she identified the suspect as 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr., a prior resident who violated a protection-from-abuse court order to stay away from the property.
Deputies combing the area ultimately spotted Villalobos on the same block the following morning and arrested him after a short chase. He is being held at the Barton County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
