'Never lose hope': How an ex-CIA officer is helping wounded Afghan combat veterans heal

Sixteen months after waking up in a body bag, a wounded Afghan veteran who served alongside American troops is adapting to life in the U.S. with the help of FAMIL.

Midway through the mission, the vehicle hit a roadside bomb. The blast shredded his right leg and damaged his left. He lost consciousness and was pronounced dead on the blood-soaked dirt road. Hannah Ray Lambert is an associate producer/writer with Fox News Digital Originals.

Now, Monir lives in Texas and is working to get back on his feet with the help of FAMIL, a nonprofit started by a former CIA officer who spent years tracking terrorists in Afghanistan.

"The particular Afghan veterans that FAMIL works with, they have made tremendous sacrifices on the battlefield," FAMIL founder Geeta Bakshi told Fox News.
