Whoopi Goldberg, Rob Lowe and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are among those who paid their respects to the two-time Oscar-winning actor.
Maggie Smith’s death on Friday in London at the age of 89 inspired many of the two-time Oscar winner’s fans and co-workers to share tributes on social media.
Among those paying their respects was Smith’s “Sister Act” co-star Whoopi Goldberg, who celebrated the British actor with an Instagram post:
“Maggie Smith was a great woman and a brilliant actress. I still can’t believe I was lucky enough to work with the ‘one-of-a-kind’. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family…RIP,” she wrote.
The official Harry Potter Instagram page also celebrated Smith’s portrayal of Professor Minerva McGonagall in all eight films, saying, “Her quick wit and formidable presence as the Head of Gryffindor House made sure Hogwarts was always in safe hands.”
Other tributes followed on X, formerly Twitter, including current British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his predecessor, Rishi Sunak.
