A pre-event for the 6th International Millet Trade Fair, aimed to highlight the significance of millets in sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship, was held at Kristu Jayanti College in Bengaluru on Friday.
The event, a collaborative effort of the Department of Agriculture and Department of Life Sciences of Kristu Jayanti College, brought together students, academicians, and agricultural experts.
In his inaugural address, Y.S. Patil, Commissioner, Department of Agriculture, said the International Millet Trade Fair will be held from January 23 to 25, with participation from over 70 countries and 25 Indian states. He urged students to attend on all three days, emphasising the department’s commitment to ensuring all arrangements for their participation.
The event included exhibitions of millet-based products and discussions on their nutritional benefits and market potential. Students showcased innovative ideas for millet entrepreneurship, through a series of competitions including the sale of packaged millet products, elocution, quiz and Millet-Masterchef.
The event also featured a panel discussion focusing on the role of millets in sustainable farming and entrepreneurship. Experts shared insights on the potential of millets to improve rural livelihoods, enhance food security, and contribute to a greener planet.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), probing the death of contractor, Sachin Panchal, who allegedly ended his life in Bidar on December 26 last year, arrested five persons, including the prime accused Rajkumar Kapnoor, a former member of the Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike, and reportedly a follower of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, Priyank Kharge, on Friday.
