NHL general managers do not send messages to their teams through intermediaries. They do not attempt to jump-start their squads by sending league-wide memos advertising that they are exploring trades.
Rather, NHL general managers send messages to their teams by taking action. They trade first and deal with message-sending later.
Hopefully, Chris Drury, the GM of the Rangers, understands that.
There is a perfect storm brewing that is threatening to capsize the season. Something is broken and the GM knows he must fix it. Half measures are not the remedy Drury and the hierarchy are seeking after notifying the other 31 GMs that the club is ready to deal just about anyone.
