Scott Bessent’s comments came after NBC’s Kristen Welker pressed him during “Meet the Press.”
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has declared “there are no guarantees” that Americans won’t face a recession during President Donald Trump’s second term.
“Mr. Secretary, can you guarantee the American people here and now that there will be no recession on President Trump’s watch?” NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Bessent Sunday on “Meet the Press.”
“You know there are no guarantees. Who would have predicted COVID?” Bessent responded.
He went on to tell Welker that what he can “predict” is that “we’re putting in robust policies that will be durable.”
“And could there be an adjustment? Because I tell you that this massive government spending that we’d had, that if that had kept going, we have to wean our country off of that,” Bessent added.
