ICE nearing historic deal with IRS to aid in deportations: report
Fox News
U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement and the Internal Revenue Service are nearing a data sharing agreement that could aid with deportations, according to a report.
The current draft agreement, obtained by the Washington Post, would limit ICE to confirm the addresses of illegal immigrants who have final removal orders, while Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and acting ICE Director Todd Lyons would be the only two people authorized to submit requests to the IRS. The draft agreement language authorizes address verification on individuals "subject to criminal investigation" for violating immigration law, taking advantage of a narrow exception to IRS privacy laws that allow for the use of taxpayer data to aid criminal investigations.
