Arilova police station gets new spacious building near VIMS, inaugurated by Home Minister V Anitha.
Arilova police personnel heaved a huge sigh of relief, as they get a new police station building, near Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) area at Hanumanthawaka, here.
From many years, the Arilova police station had been functioning from a cyclone shelter building and was very congested. The new spacious building was constructed over an acre space with a budget of around ₹5 crore, with all amenities.
Home Minister V. Anitha inaugurated the new police station. She was accompanied by Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, Director General of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, Deputy Inspector General (Visakha Range) Gopinath Jatti, Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam, Shankabratha Bagchi, and other police officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Anitha said that police personnel from other police stations used to pity the staff working in the Arilova police station due to the small building and lack of basic amenities. The NDA government was committed to the welfare of the police and strengthening the department with all needs, she said adding that the construction of the police station was completed in a record time. Ms. Anitha said that the foundation stone for the new building was laid during the year 2018, but no works were taken up by the previous government. She also said that the new building block would see more constructions, where other enforcement wings would be accommodated, for which another ₹2.5 crore would be released soon.
Ms Anitha felicitated the Divis Management for providing furniture worth ₹16 lakh to the station.
Some of the police personnel said that the old Arilova police station building did not have adequate space to store stationery and accommodate people approaching them with grievances. Some years ago, it did not even have toilet facility and later, the higher authorities have constructed one, they said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, V. Ajitha, and others were present.
