YSR Congress Party faces no-trust vote against Deputy Mayor in GVMC Council, NDA camp optimistic for win on April 26.
After losing the no-confidence motion against Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is bracing for another test in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Council as the voting on the no-trust move against Deputy Mayor Jiyyani Sridhar is scheduled for April 26, 2025.
Sources say that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) camp comprising Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Jana Sena Party (JSP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has done their preparations for the voting. The coalition members seem to be optimistic about their win.
Recently, the NDA won the no-confidence motion against the Mayor with 74 votes, and the leaders say that the no-trust move against the Deputy Mayor would also witness a repeat, with a bigger margin.
Meanwhile, District Collector and in-charge GVMC Commissioner M.N. Harendhira Prasad reviewed the arrangements for the voting on the no-trust move.
He made it clear that the voting would be done amid tight security, and that only corporators and ex-officio members would be allowed into the GVMC Council during the voting.
Meanwhile, the preparations are under way in the YSRCP camp. During the voting on the recent no-confidence motion against the Mayor, only 32 corporators of the YSRCP followed the call given by the party leadership to boycott the voting process.
Votes of some of the corporators, including T. Vamsi Reddy, son of former Gajuwala MLA T. Nagi Reddy; M Priyanka, daughter of former Minister M. Srinivasa Rao; and two corporators from the family of former YSRCP leader, Behera Bhaskar Rao, turned out to be crucial in the NDA’s win in the no-trust move voting.
