Revamp of Buddha Purnima area around Hussain Sagar lake into eco-friendly tourist destination through detailed master plan and engineering.
The State government intends to revamp the area under the Buddha Purnima Project around the Hussain Sagar lake to redevelop it as an eco-friendly tourist destination.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority on Friday (March 22, 2025) invited bids for Expression of Interest for Master Planning, Architectural Designs and Detailed Engineering Services for re-development of Buddha Purnima Area.
The Buddha Purnima area includes several tourist destinations such as Lumbini Park, Laserium, Ambedkar’s Statue, Martyrs Memorial, NTR Garden, NTR Memorial, Sanjeevaiah Park, PV Gyanbhoomi, Necklace Road, Lakeview Park, People’s Plaza, wetland eco conservation zone and others.
The area also acts as a key connectivity hub and sees high traffic flow throughout the day, the EoI document mentioned.
Realising the further potential that could be explored from a commercial, urbanscape and recreational perspectives, HMDA now intends to redevelop the entire area termed as ‘influence zone’ by undertaking a detailed master plan and detailed engineering and drawings, along with identification of key projects to be developed.
Seeking to reposition the Sanjeevaiah Park as the centre of tourism in the area, the urban development authority also invited suggestions for alternatives to ease the traffic movement in the region through alternative corridors, routes, flyovers and other mobility solutions while ensuring pedestrian and cyclist friendly corridors around the bund.
Rejuvenating and triggering growth across urban landscape, development of the entire corridor into new commercial and recreational centre, reduction of carbon footprint while maximising social, economic and ecological benefits, and Hussain Sagar Lake management through emerging technology and solutions are other stated aims of the redevelopment.
