MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that officials had assured him of completing the railway overbridge connecting Gadag and Hombal at Gangapurpet in Gadag city within the next five to six months.
Speaking to the media after inspecting the underconstruction railway overbridge at Gangapurpet in Gadag on Friday, Mr. Bommai said that work on the overbridge which connected Hombal to Ambedkar Nagar, which was suspended for a long time had resumed after he raised the issue with officials of South Western Railway three months ago.
He said after he raised the issue with them, the SWR officials had initiated steps to resume the work by assigning the work to a new contractor.
He said that a drinking water supply line in Ambedkar Nagar was required to be replaced as part of the project. As residents of Ambedkar Nagar had requested for improvement of the underground drainage network in the locality, he had raised the issue with Assistant Commissioner Gangappa who had promised swift action. Mr. Bommai said that the work on replacing the pipeline and improving the underground drainage system would begin simultaneously.
Mr. Bommai said that a 42-metre steel bridge will be erected over the railway track as part of the project and the work was expected to be completed within a fortnight.
He said that he would be reviewing the project on a regular basis to ensure that the work was completed within the promised period. Senior railway officials accompanied Mr. Bommai during the inspection.
