Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood is praising two police K-9s who were shot by an alleged armed carjacking suspect in the early hours of Saturday morning, saying that they took bullets for their handlers and potentially saved their lives.
A Lyft driver told police that shortly before midnight on Friday, he picked up a passenger and drove him to a remote area north of Orlando. The passenger allegedly forced the driver out of the vehicle at gunpoint then fled. The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Shedrick Singleton Jr. K9 Ax was shot in the face shortly after midnight on Saturday while responding to an armed carjacking call.
