Five pilgrims killed, 11 injured in road accident near Kalaburagi

Five people, including a two-year-old boy, were killed and eleven people were severely injured after a minibus they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck near Sonna Cross in Jewargi taluk of Kalaburagi district in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Malanabi Mehboob Gaddanakere, 52, Mehboobi Usman Saab, 53, Priyanka Manjunath, 13, Mehboob Usman Saab, 29, and Wajid Mehboob, 2, – all from Bagalkot.
According to the police, the minibus had 31 passengers, who were travelling to the historic Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah in Kalaburagi.
The incident occurred when the minibus rammed into a truck, which was parked on the roadside to replace a flat tyre.
Of the five victims, four died on the spot and one succumbed to injuries while being shifted to the hospital. The eleven injured were also shifted to Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS). The driver of the minibus reportedly fled the scene.
Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu visited the spot. All the bodies were shifted to the Jewargi taluk hospital.
A case has been registered at Nelogi police station.
