Survivors of Dhanushkodi cyclone commemorate 60th anniversary, paying homage to victims of the tragic natural calamity.
Fisherfolk and survivors of the Dhanushkodi cyclone observed the 60th anniversary of the tragedy and paid homage to those who perished in the natural calamity at the isle on Tuesday.
Karuppasamy of Dhanushkodi, whose family was hit by the cyclonic storm on the night of December 22, 1964, said they were still trying to overcome the tragic incidents which shattered their family into pieces.
P. Chelladurai, president, Dhanushkodi Cyclone-affected Fishermen Rehabilitation Association, said “Even after 60 years, the pain is still there. The shapeless buildings and damaged railway line still takes us through the terrific night when people ran around helplessly to save themselves and their dear ones,” he said.

The Karnataka government has drafted a comprehensive master plan for the integrated development of Kukke Subrahmanya temple, the State’s highest revenue-generating temple managed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department. The redevelopment initiative is estimated to cost around ₹254 crore and aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities for devotees.
