The family of Mia Campos, who was seven months pregnant, found her dead in a wooded area near their home in Loganville, Georgia.
A Georgia man was arrested on Wednesday as police investigate the death of his 16-year-old pregnant ex-girlfriend whose body was discovered over the weekend.
Jesus Monroy, 20, is charged with giving false statements to police during their homicide investigation into the death of Mia Campos, whose body was found in the woods near her home in Loganville, according to an announcement by Gwinnett County Police.
Officers told Atlanta CBS affiliate WANF on Wednesday that Monroy was not currently a suspect in Campos’ killing.
Campos’ family told police that she left their home on the night of July 14 with an unknown person but did not return, according to the police press release. Her family found her dead in a nearby wooded area the next day after using an app to track her cell phone.
“Face down. It was hard. I knew something was wrong. Her lips and her nose. They murdered my baby,” her father, Edward Campos, told reporters.
