
Eshwarappa should be charged with murder: Ramanath Rai

Newly appointed Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president B. Ramanath Rai said on Wednesday said that the allegation of corruption against Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K.S. Eshwarappa is serious and he should be charged with murdering the civil contractor Santosh Patil, 36, who was found dead in a room of a lodge in Udupi on Tuesday.
Talking to reporters he said that Mr. Eshwarappa and his aides have been accused of harassing Patil and demanding 40% commission for release of the funds for the road and other works done by the latter, which led to Patil ending his life.
The Udupi police have booked Mr. Eshwarappa and his aides under Section 306 (abatement to suicide) of Indian Penal Code.
Mr. Rai said Dakshina Kannada Pradesh Congress Committee demands not just removal of Mr. Eshwarappa from the Cabinet. Mr. Eshwarappa and his aides should be forthwith arrested as Patil has levelled allegations in the messages sent to his friends before he ended his life.
P.V. Mohan, who is also the vice-president of KPCC, said a comprehensive investigation should be done over the alleged demand of commission for release of money to contractors.
