Doha: Mexico’s Pachuca triumphed 3-0 over Brazil’s Botafogo, delivering a brilliant second-half performance to clinch the prestigious Derby of the Americas title at Stadium 974 yesterday.
Oussama Idrissi opened the scoring with a stunning goal in the 50th minute, followed by Nelson Deossa, who doubled the lead in the 66th. Salomon Rondon sealed the emphatic victory in the 80th minute after being set up by Idrissi.
Guillermo Almada’s Pachuca will now face Egypt’s Al Ahly in the FIFA Challenger Cup on Saturday at the same venue, with European champions Real Madrid awaiting the winners for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup showdown at Lusail Stadium next Wednesday.
“It was really emotional. It was a party in the stadium with all the supporters from Pachuca and Botafogo that came here. We’re very happy. We’re already thinking about the next game, which could be even more difficult than this one,” said coach Almada.
