DMK cadre booked for damaging EVM in Besant Nagar

The police on Sunday booked a case against Kathir alias Kathiravan of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for damaging the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and threatening the polling officials in Besant Nagar. The accused had been booked along with four other cadres of the ruling party under three sections. A police team is searching for the main accused.
The police said that during the Greater Chennai Corporation election held on Saturday, a group of DMK cadre barged into the polling booth in Odaikuppam and damaged the EVMs and threatened the polling officials manning the polling station.
Based on the CCTV footage, the Tiruvanmiyur police filed a case against Kathir and four others under Section 504 of the Indian Penal Code for causing damage to the public property and creating nuisance to the public.
