Mismatch seen between bodies cremated and figures reported
Over the past week, staff at two electric crematoria in the city — Thathaneri and Moolakarai — have been overburdened, attending to an increasing number of COVID-19 deaths. While crematoria have been witnessing long queues due to an increase in COVID-19 deaths, the State’s health bulletin does not reflect the surge in Madurai. According to City Health Officer P. Kumaraguruparan, the bodies of COVID-19 patients or those suspected to have had the infection are cremated at the electric crematoria at Thathaneri and Moolakarai. People are allowed to take the bodies of COVID-19 patients to their villages for cremation only after obtaining a ‘no-objection certificate’ from the respective health inspectors, he said.More Related News
