A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Thursday suggested that the government take over 50% of the beds of all the private hospitals for treatment of COVID-19 patients. The Bench also suggested setting up a common toll-free number to enable patients to get medical assistance and information on hospitals beds with oxygen, ventilators etc. A management system to deal with different kinds of patients should be put in place, it said.

Under the NBS, newborns are screened for communication disorders before they are discharged from the hospital. For this, AIISH has collaborated with several hospitals to conduct screening which is performed to detect hearing impairment and other developmental disabilities that can affect speech and language development. The screening has been helping in early intervention for those identified with the disorders, as any delay in the identification poses risk and affects successful management of children with hearing loss, according to AIISH.
