Codissia and GIACC renew agreement, promoting business opportunities between Coimbatore and Georgia for three more years.
The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) and the Georgia Indo American Chamber of Commerce (GIACC) have renewed a Memorandum of Agreement signed last year for another three years.
A delegation of 21 members from the GIACC are on a four-day visit to Coimbatore and participated in the inaugural of a conference on “Empowering Coimbatore MSMEs in Global Market” on Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday, they will take part in meetings on investing and doing business in India and Georgia.
According to R. Shasikumar, vice president of the Codissia, following the visit of a 52-member delegation from Coimbatore to Georgia last year, 10 members of the Codissia have set up offices in Georgia now.
Grace Multani, chairperson of the GIACC, and S.K. Raj, former chairman of the GIACC, told The Hindu on Tuesday that the GIACC has set up a trade office in Coimbatore.
There are tremendous opportunities for businesses in Coimbatore when they set up operations in Georgia and it offers labour incentives too. The cost of living is one of the lowest, annual economic growth is 6.5 %, and the US and India are the two biggest democracies. It is also one of the most preferred bases for several US companies too.
For about half the members of the delegation, this is the first visit to India. The companies can use Georgia as a base to expand operations across the US. Smaller industrial clusters across the region can meet the visiting delegates here till Thursday.
M. Karthikeyan, president of the Codissia, explained the activities of the Association and industrial strengths to the visiting delegates.
