
City of Hamilton extends deadline for payment of property taxes, citing postal delivery issues

The City of Hamilton has extended the deadline for the Feb. 28 instalment of property tax payments, giving homeowners four more weeks to settle their account.
The city says property owners now have until March 31 to make payments without incurring the standard 1.25 per cent late penalty charge.
In a news release on Friday, the city said some property owners had not yet received their tax bill or may have received it very close to the due date because of ongoing postal delivery issues.
"The city recognizes the inconvenience this may cause and is taking steps to support property owners," the release reads.
"Although the City of Hamilton met its legislated requirement to mail tax bills to all property owners at least 21 days before the due date, Canada Post's delays are affecting delivery times. While this issue is beyond the city's control, we are providing additional time for payment to assist taxpayers."
Canada Post did not respond to CBC's request for comment before publication.
Meanwhile, the city says the second instalment of the 2025 Interim Property Tax bill remains due on April 30, and payments made after this date will be subject to standard penalty charges.
