Chappell Roan Has Blunt Words For Record Labels After Grammys Win: 'Do You Got Us?'

The singer didn't hold back in a message to the "most powerful people in music" after her Best New Artist win.
Chappell Roan followed through on a promise to herself on Sunday as she delivered a blunt message to the music industry after her Best New Artist win at the Grammy Awards.
The singer, who was nominated in six categories, said that if she ever won a Grammy and got to address the “most powerful people in music,” she’d demand that labels and those “profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a livable wage and health care, especially to developing artists.”
Chappell, who delivered an electric performance of her song “Pink Pony Club” at the award show, read from a notebook in her acceptance speech as she referred to being signed to a label at a young age only to get dropped with “zero job experience under my belt.”
“And like most people, I had a difficult time finding a job in the pandemic and could not afford health insurance,” she added.
“It was so devastating to feel so committed to my art and feel so betrayed by the system and so dehumanized to not have health care. And if my label would have prioritized artists’ health, I could have been provided care by a company I was giving everything to.”
