Longtime councillor and MP Carolyn Parrish won Mississauga's mayoral race Monday night, beating out a crowded field of contenders for the top job.
Longtime councillor and MP Carolyn Parrish won Mississauga's mayoral race Monday night, beating out a crowded field of contenders for the top job.
With 100 per cent of polls reporting, Parrish was more than 8,500 votes ahead of her closest competitor, first-term councillor Alvin Tedjo.
She garnered 43,494 votes compared to 35,005 for Tedjo. Dipika Damerla came in with 27,119 while Stephen Dasko got 22,408. David Shaw came in with 2,843, while Brian Crombie garnered 2,242.
According to unofficial results, 138,500 voters cast a ballot in the byelection, the city said in a news release, yielding a voter turnout of 25.71 per cent.
With the win, Crombie will become just Mississauga’s third mayor since 1978. There have only been five mayor’s in Mississauga’s entire post-amalgamation history.
