After the challenges we all faced in 2021, what's there to look forward to in the New Year?
For many, the answer could be synonymous with what they've missed the most during the course of the pandemic. There is cautious optimism from some experts that 2022 could finally bring an end to the ordeal as COVID-19 potentially becomes endemic, so having hope is not entirely out of the question.
Here's what a few Londoners said they were excited about in 2022.
"What we're looking forward to is the end of this pandemic and all, because it's limited us so much," said Mary-Paul Morley, who added that she's excited to see her brother in Napanee, Ont. after two years of distancing due to his health.
"We're looking forward to good health, and we're looking forward to just having peace with everything that's going on. Just to have that joy in our hearts still, and the spark, and not let the worries and the problems of everything we hear bring us down, but to make the best of everything," said Elena Bjelis.
"And the blessing of family, of course, that gives us joy."
"It would be nice to get rid of this COVID, wouldn't it?" added Stephan Bjelis. The couple is originally from London, but now live in Haliburton, Ont.
"I'm looking forward to getting to play soccer again at the BMO Center when it opens again because I get to see my friends and I get to do what I love," said Vyse.
"I'm looking forward to playing hockey again and being able to play more games next year. I play left wing most of the time. We've been having mostly practices and I'm excited to have more games," said Hildy Tower.
And as for Matilda Tower:
"To go back to school!"
"For one thing, I'm going to set my mask on fire and bury it," joked Hendricks. "But no, I'll call up a bunch of friends and see if we can get some ice somewhere and have a big game."
