India tour of Zimbabwe: Deepak Chahar overcame a nervous start to come up with a match-winning spell of 3/27 in the first ODI in Harare on Thursday.
India fast bowler Deepak Chahar conceded on Thursday, August 18 that he felt nervous in the first few overs on his return to competitive cricket in the first ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare. Chahar overcame a sluggish start to come up with a match-winning performance with the ball in the series opener.
Deepak Chahar was playing a competitive match for the first time since February 2022 and the nerves were evident when he struggled to find the ideal line and length on the Harare pitch that offered plenty of bounce. Chahar was able to get the ball moving both ways but he lacked control in his first few overs.
In fact, Chahar fell over on the pitch while trying an effort ball in his second over with TV replays showing an uneven impact on his ankle.

However, Chahar overcame the sluggish start to find his rhythm and rattle the Zimbabwe top-order.
Chahar got the wicket of Zimbabwe openers Innocent Kaia, Marumani and No. 3 batter Madhevere as he bowled unchanged for 7 overs from one end. Chahar finished with a spell of 3/27 that helped India bowl Zimbabwe out for 189.
Chahar was declared the Player of the Match on his return to the side.
