ZIM vs IND | Shikhar Dhawan comments on Washington Sundar missing out on ODI series: Quite an important player
India Today
Shikhar Dhawan commented on the absence of Washington Sundar from the squad for the series against Zimbabwe and hailed him as an important player for the team.
Shikhar Dhawan has commented on Washington Sundar missing out on the Zimbabwe ODI series due to an injury, saying that he is quite an important player for the team.
India suffered a big blow when Sundar was ruled out from the three-match series after sustaining an injury during his County stint with Lancashire. The 22-year-old will now undergo rehabilitation at the NCA and was replaced in the squad by Shahbaz Ahmed.
Speaking at the press conference, as quoted by News 18, Dhawan admitted that the team would miss the services of Sundar and hailed him as an important player for the team. The southpaw also went on to say that there are enough spinners in the squad who would provide solid backup throughout the three-match series.
“He is quite an important player. We have got a replacement now. Shahbaz (Ahmed) is coming in. But we have got other spinners as well in the side. We have got quite a balanced side. Kuldeep Yadav is there, Deepak Hooda bowls off-spin. We are going to miss him (Sundar). At the same time, we’ve got good backup as well."
“Very sad that Washington is out. It is part and parcel of our field, these things happen. Hope that he recovers soon,” said Dhawan.
Dhawan, who is one of the senior members of the squad, also believes that the youngsters will get a good opportunity to shine against Zimbabwe.
