Yukon RCMP are expected to provide more details on Wednesday afternoon about a shooting that happened in the town of Faro on Tuesday.
Police will hold a news conference from Whitehorse at 2:15 p.m., about 24 hours after the small town went into a temporary lockdown amid reports of an active shooter.
Chief Supt. Scott Sheppard, commanding officer of Yukon RCMP, will hold the news conference.
There are still few details about what happened. Yukon Premier Sandy Silver issued a statement on Tuesday evening confirming "multiple victims," but the condition of those victims is not known. Officials have not confirmed whether anyone was killed.
Meantime, other territorial leaders have issued statements.
"Our hearts are with the community and the families of the injured victims as we await to hear more about the incidents that have occurred," Yukon's incoming MP Brendan Hanley wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday morning.
Dawson City Mayor Wayne Potoroka posted that flags at his community's town hall were at half mast "to honour the victims in Faro."
"This hits us all hard. They're not alone with their grief," Potoroka wrote.
The City of Whitehorse also tweeted on Wednesday that flags at city buildings were at half mast "to honour the victims of the tragic event" in Faro.
