Yukon government releases findings on Hidden Valley investigation
CBC
Premier Sandy Silver and lawyer Amanda Rogers will discuss the findings of the investigation into the Hidden Valley Elementary School sex abuse scandal Tuesday.
Watch it live here or on our CBC Yukon Facebook page starting at 10 a.m.
Rogers is the investigator hired by the Yukon government to conduct an independent review of the government's handling of the 2019 case where a former educational assistant was charged and convicted of sexual abuse related to a student at the school. Parents did not learn of the incident until CBC reported on a lawsuit filed in 2021.
Seven new charges have since been laid as a result of further victims coming forward.
Rogers has already said there were "policy gaps" in the incident.
Silver faced a non-confidence vote in the Yukon Legislature last November over said gaps, though the vote was not successful.
The case has already lead to an apology, and an admission of error, by Yukon RCMP. Separate investigations, by the Yukon's ombudsman and the territory's child and youth advocate, are also underway.
