Yukon gov't giving another update on Victoria Gold mine failure
CBC
Experts with the Yukon government plan to give a briefing Friday morning on how the territorial government is responding to the failure of the heap leach facility at Victoria Gold's Eagle mine near Mayo.
You can watch the briefing live on this page starting at 10:30 a.m. Yukon time.
It is the first briefing so far that isn't expected to include John Streicker, the Yukon's minister responsible for mines.
The briefing comes after Yukon government inspection reports were made public earlier this week which describe a series of failures by Victoria Gold to adequately address cyanide solution leaks.
That included efforts by the mining company to excavate a dirt pit to fill with contaminated solution. The inspection reports said the pit was too small and mine operators didn't line it, meaning any water stored there could seep into groundwater.
