Amid the political heat caused by the no-confidence motion proposed against Visakhapatnam Mayor (YSRCP) G. Hari Venkata Kumari in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) council, the NDA and YSRCP leaderships are doing everything possible to keep their flocks together.
Though the NDA and the YSRCP claim that they are very optimistic about their win, it is learnt that the senior leaders of the YSRCP and the TDP are trying to muster their strength to win in the no-confidence motion meeting scheduled for April 19.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the YSRCP corporators, who were camping in Karnataka, have now been shifted to Sri Lanka. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which has arranged a camp for its corporators in a resort at Bhogapuram, is understood to have started shifting them to Malaysia.
Around 25 to 30 corporators have already left for Malaysia, while another group is set to leave in a day or two, sources said.
At present, there are 97 corporators for 98 wards and 14 ex-officio members in the GVMC. The NDA corporators claim that their strength is about 72 including 48 TDP corporators, 11 Jana Sena Party (JSP), two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators, apart from the 12 ex-officio members.
Similarly, the YSRCP has 34 corporators and it has the support of three ex-officio members. The remaining two corporators are from the CPI and the CPI(M).
As per the sources, the NDA needs 74 votes to win the no-confidence motion.
