Accused of being a ‘dalbadlu’, Babul Supriyo is gearing up to fight against the BJP in the Ballygunge Assembly by-election on May 12.
I am everything but not a “dalbadlu”, said Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s candidate from Kolkata’s Ballygunge Assembly constituency and ex-Union minister Babul Supriyo on allegations of defection by the opposition.
Babul Supriyo defected to the TMC last September, within months of being dropped from the Narendra Modi cabinet. He is currently gearing up to fight against the BJP in the Ballygunge Assembly bypolls on May 12.
"I left BJP and had left the MP-ship. I joined the TMC after leaving BJP. You can't call me a dalbadlu. When I left politics, Nadda Ji offered me a position in the party but I refused and told him that I don't want to stay in the BJP," said Babul Supriyo.
Apart from the Ballygunge Assembly Seat, a by-election will also take place for the seat Babul vacated in Asansol.
A song, composed by Babul during his BJP campaign in 2019, Ei Trinamool Aar Na or Trinamool No More, is being used by the BJP against Shatrughan Sinha, TMC's candidate in Asansol.
"BJP is using my song. There is so much talent in the BJP, why don’t they make a new song? I have left the party, I'm fighting against them and they are playing my song." said Supriyo.
