Wriddhiman Saha on Saturday shared screengrabs of messages of threat from an unnamed journalist for not agreeing to talk to him after the senior stumper was dropped from India's squad for the Test series against ri Lanka in March.
Former India cricketers Harbhajan Singh, RP Singh and Virender Sehwag were among the many who backed Wriddhiman Saha after the India wicketkeeper shared screenshots of his private chat with an unnamed journalist who sent him messages of threat.
Wriddhiman Saha's explosive revelation created a flutter on social media after the wicketkeeper was threatened for not agreeing to talk to the unnamed journalist over his exclusion from the Test squad for the Sri Lanka series. In a one-sided exchange of messages, the journalist was seen telling Saha that he was hurt by the wicketkeeper not responding to his calls and that he doesn't take insults kindly.
Saha shared the screengrabs of the messages and wrote on Twitter: "After all of my contributions to Indian cricket..this is what I face from a so called “Respected” journalist! This is where the journalism has gone (sic)."
Saha's post went viral on social media with fans and cricketers stepping in to support the veteran cricketer.
Responding to the post, Harbhajan Singh urged Saha to reveal the name of the journalist and then urged the BCCI to protect players from such threats.
"Wridhi you just name the person so that the cricket community knows who operates like this. Else even the good ones will be put under suspicion...," Harbhajan said.
"What kind of journalism is this? @BCCI @Wriddhipops @JayShah @SGanguly99 @ThakurArunS players should be protected," he added.
