QNA DohaQatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, is keen to participate in the World Hygiene Day celebration with the aim to raise awareness of public hygiene, Minister of Municipality and Environment and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie has said.In his speech to mark the occasion, which falls on the third Saturday of September every year, the minister said the aim of this participation is to engage in the global campaign based on five basic principles: cooperation, positivity, leadership, technology and fun.He added that the participation comes from the belief in the importance of public hygiene, especially in light of COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the whole world. âHygiene is also one of the important indicators to measure and preserve the civilisation and progress of countries, which means maintaining the level of comfort for everyone and ensuring a decent life, which requires an individual and collective commitment that each individual in society assumes his responsibility towards himself, his country and society. It is one of the necessities of life,â the minister said.He added that the ministry has launched a number of projects in support of public hygiene and the General Cleanness Department has strengthened its continuous efforts, by launching a number of awareness campaigns for the benefit of school students and implemented a number of campaigns to clean kindergartens and beaches in partnership with youth centres and the community, as well as civil and private sectors.He expressed the ministryâs keenness to implement various laws and legislations that contribute to maintaining public cleanliness in the country, especially with regard to waste collection and the proper and safe disposal of waste in accordance with the highest international standards.The minister stressed that the main work to preserve the cleanliness of the country, the environment and the planet is by reducing as much waste as possible and working on the safe disposal of waste, sorting and recycling it and using it to generate new sources of energy.For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs Engineer Ahmed Mohammad Al Sada stressed that the ministry participated in the celebration of the day to emphasise the importance of public cleanliness in various areas of life.He noted that from January until the end of July 2021, the General Cleanliness Department collected an estimated of 109,089 tonnes of domestic waste, construction waste, recycling materials, solid waste, tree waste and random dumping waste, under the supervision of a team of 3,445 workers, technicians and administrators.
