A "work-related incident" at Wheat City Metals Recycling has halted operations at the Evraz facility in Regina and sent one of its employees to hospital, the company said Tuesday.
Evraz North America says the unspecified incident happened this morning at Wheat City Metals Recycling.
Saskatchewan RCMP say they received reports of an injury at 8:20 a.m. CT. Officers assisted EMS at the scene.
STARS has confirmed one of its helicopters was dispatched to an industrial area on the north side of Regina for a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
A flight tracking site shows the helicopter landed at the Evraz facility in Regina. An employee received emergency care on-site, according to Evraz North America.
STARS says it transported the injured individual to Regina General Hospital.
"Our prayers are with our teammate and his family," a spokesperson for Evraz wrote. "We would like to thank the members of Regina's emergency services for their prompt response and action"
There is no word on the employee's condition or injuries.
Operations at the Evraz facility are on hold, and the company will "fully co-operate" with the Canadian Centre for Occupation Health and Safety as the incident is investigated, the company spokesperson said.
Saskatchewan's Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety would only confirm that they had been notified of an incident this morning and that health officers had been deployed to the scene.
It would not provide any details about the injured worker, its investigation or whether it had issued a stop-work order.
"No further information will be provided by the ministry," a spokesperson for the ministry wrote.
RCMP say that because the incident is now a workplace safety investigation, they are unable to provide any further details.
