Won’t tolerate people taking law into their hands: Karnataka CM

Karnataka Chief Minster Basavaraj Bommai said his government works on the principle of equality and will not tolerate instances of people taking law into their hands. 

Speaking to reporters on his arrival in Udupi on April 11, Mr. Bommai said everyone has the freedom to propagate one’s ideals and philosophy, but they cannot take law into their hands. 

Minister for Energy, Kannada & Culture V. Sunil Kumar and Udupi MLA K. Raghupati Bhat were present during the CM’s interaction with reporters.

Asked whether the government will ban organisations whose members take the law into their hands, Mr Bommai said, “You will know in the coming days.”

Responding to charges by the opposition that the Chief Minister was silent on such incidents, Mr. Bommai said people should pay attention to action, and not words. “We know what decision and action is to be taken at a particular time,” he said adding “We need not learn from them (the opposition). They were the ones who withdrew cases against persons associated with organisations facing murder charges.”

Karnataka is one of the most progressive States with a conducive atmosphere, he said. “We know how to maintain law and order.”
