Women's Ashes: Brave England snatch draw despite imploding on dramatic final day of only Test
India Today
Women's Ashes 2022: Nat Sciver and Sophia Dunkley came up with aggressive knocks as England went for a 257-run target on a dramatic final day of the only Test but they were forced to settle for a draw after imploding in the final session.
A brave England team gave Australia a massive scare in the only Women's Ashes Test in Canberra and walked away with a draw despite imploding on a dramatic final day. England got to 245/9 in just 48 overs, falling short of a record target by just 12 runs in an exciting finish on Sunday.
Chasing 257 after Australia declared on 216/7 on the final day of the only Ashes Test, England went hammer and tongs, scoring consistently at more than 5 runs an over. While Lauren Winfield Hill hit 33, her opening partner Tammy Beaumont hit 36 from just 42 balls as England made their intentions clear right from the word go in their chase.
Captain Heather Knight missed out on a fifty but she hit 48 from 54 balls before all-rounder Nat Sciver and Sophia Dunkley looked like they would run away with the game in the final session. Sciver hit 58 in just 62 balls and Dunkley went after the Australian attack to hit 45 from 32 balls. The two batters added 52 runs in just 7.2 overs as England were cruising towards the target at 218/3.
The greatest Test match that I have been luckily enough to be involved in. Thank you @englandcricket @ @AusWomenCricket for playing such an entertaining game. Now for 5 day Test please
What a finish that was. Absolutely great for test cricket #Ashes
