Woman's rope snaps when farmer couple attempts suicide in Agra, man dies

A man died and his wife suffered injuries after the couple attempted suicide due to domestic distress in Agra's Fatehpur Sikri. The rope snapped due to the woman's weight while they tried to hang from a tree.
A married couple attempted to commit suicide by hanging themselves from a tree in Fatehpur Sikri, Agra. The woman’s rope snapped as she was overweight, resulting in her escaping with injuries. However, the man died in the incident.
Maan Singh, a 54-year-old farmer and his wife Santa Devi (50) fastened a rope to a tree in a field with the intention of committing suicide.
Santa Devi's rope broke because of her weight, and she survived with injuries. She was running towards her house with the noose still around her neck when she was stopped by two police officers.
Upon noticing her, the officers stopped, removed the noose from her neck and called for an ambulance.
However, by the time the ambulance arrived and they all reached the spot where Maan Singh had hung himself, he had stopped breathing. He was then brought down from the tree and declared dead.
The couple has three daughters and one son, who are all married. Yogesh, the 28-year-old son, resides with his wife in Mathura and works as a labourer there.
The couple resorted to taking their own lives due to issues of domestic violence.
