A woman bank manager was killed while two others sustained injuries after a huge tree fell on a moving car in KK Nagar in Chennai on Friday evening.
A 55-year-old woman was killed while two others were injured after a huge tree fell on the car they were travelling in KK Nagar in Chennai on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Vani Kabilan, was a bank manager by profession and the incident occurred when she was returning from her office last evening.
Upon receiving the information, police and fire and rescue personnel reached the spot and removed the tree. Meanwhile, the injured were rushed to ESI Hospital in K.K. Nagar and the body of the deceased was sent for post mortem.
While locals said that the ground near the tree was dug for storm water drain, Greater Chennai Corporation issued a statement stating that no work, including stormwater drain, had been undertaken in the last two days. The work was halted on June 22, which was 10 feet away from the tree, they said. Furthermore, the corporation Commissioner has sought a detailed report regarding the accident.
Preliminary investigation, suggests that the tree fell due to rainfall in the last two days.
Police have registered a case of accidental death.
