The woman was arrested after Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde filed a complaint against her for allegedly threatening him with filing a rape case and demanding Rs 5 crores as extortion money.
The Mumbai police crime branch has arrested a woman after Social Justice Minister of Maharashtra Dhananjay Munde filed a complaint of extortion against her.
Renu Sharma was arrested in Indore on Thursday. She is the sister of Karuna Sharma, who is said to be in a live-in relationship with Munde.
The arrested woman, identified as Renu Sharma, had filed a complaint of rape against Munde in January last year. However, later she took back her complaint.
Munde filed a complaint against Renu Sharma who allegedly threatened him with filing a rape case against him and demanded Rs 5 crores as extortion money from him. The case was registered at Malabar Hill police station and has now been transferred to unit 2 of the Mumbai crime branch for further probe.
According to the complaint, Renu had told Munde that last year she handed over a piece of paper to the police (rape complaint) and his ministerial post was in jeopardy.
Renu Sharma had alleged rape by Dhananjay Munde in January last year. Within days, she withdrew the complaint. As per the FIR lodged by the minister, since 2021, Renu Sharma has been using foreign numbers to call and send messages demanding money. Dhananjay Munde has given all the evidence in this regard to the police.
One of her messages to Munde read: "Last year when I leaked a paper on social media, you almost lost your ministerial post. Now, if my demand is not fulfilled, then I will defame you. If you want to save your post, then Rs 10 crore shouldn't be a big deal."
