Hamilton police say a 62-year-old woman was killed in an apartment building in downtown Hamilton Monday.
They arrested a 34-year-old man for first-degree murder in relation to her death.
Police say they responded to "reports of a disturbance" just after 5 p.m. Police vehicles could be seen outside of an apartment building at 42 Herkimer St. near Durand Park.
The woman was found "absent of vital signs," and was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police say the man and woman knew each other.
Public information Const. Indy Bharaj told CBC Hamilton the family of the victim has been notified and does not want the woman's name released.
The man is expected to appear at John Sopinka Courthouse on Tuesday.
Police said they were still "holding the scene" as of Tuesday morning and that they are not looking for additional suspects.
