Delhi CM Kejriwal and Punjab CM Mann visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat's Ahmedabad and spoke about experiencing a spiritual feeling at the ashram.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat's Ahmedabad on Saturday. The two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders are on a two-day visit to Gujarat.
They were seen spinning the charkha and spoke about experiencing a spiritual feeling at the ashram.
After the visit, they wrote a message on the visitor's book describing their experience. Kejriwal in his message said, "This ashram is a spiritual place. It seems as if Gandhiji's spirit resides here. Coming here gives a spiritual feeling. I consider myself blessed to have been born in the country in which Gandhiji was born."
Mann, on the other hand, wrote: "Today, coming to Gandhi Ji's ashram I saw a lot which was used during the freedom struggle for our country, like hand written letters of Gadhi, the original Charkha and many things related to him. Today we have to remember sacrifices made by our revolutionaries while living in a free country. Jai Hind."
Mann told reporters, "In Punjab, everyone's house has a charkha. We are so attached to Gandhiji. We are nationalist people, we love our country and people." Both the leaders avoided answering political questions.
Later in the evening there will be a roadshow in Ahmedabad where a huge crowd is expected.
With this visit, the AAP is sending a clear message that they are in the race for Gujarat's assembly elections which is scheduled for later this year.
