The final day of the 73rd Music and Arts Festival at Sri Sathguru Sangeetha Samajam in Madurai witnessed a soul-stirring concert of Kunnakudi Balamurali Krishna with Bhakthi and Bava, which left audience spellbound.
He received percussion support from R. Ragul on violin, Karukurichi N. Mohanraman on mrudangam and Shree Sudarkumar on khanjira. Balamurali commenced with Swati Tirunal’s Varnam ‘Sarasijanabha in Kambhoji,’ offering obeisance to ‘Saraji janabhan.’
He then worshipped Vedaraneswarar (the presiding deity of Vedaranyam where the marriage of Shiva and Parvathi was celebrated by Saint Agastya) through Sri ParvathI Paramesvarau vande in bauli by Dikshidar.
His next rendition was Pancharatna Kriti Sadhinchane by Thyagaraja in Aarabhi which was mesmerising.
Shyama Shastri’s mayamma yanine in Ahiri was well presented and the vocalist was ably assisted by Ragul on the violin. Emotional rendition was witnessed for ‘Venkataramana’ by Papanasam Sivan latangi. The niraval ‘Alarmel Mangai’ was vibrant.
In the main raga Natabhairavi, Balamurali explored the full range of the raga’s character through his alapana and showcased the desired emotional depth for Papanasam Sivan’s shri valli deva senapate. The violinist gave melodious support and combined well with the vocalist.
The Tani by Mohanraman on mrudangam and Sundarkumar on khanjira blended well with the proceedings and kept the laya intact.

Bangladesh is witnessing renewed political tension after the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, a young leader who emerged during the July–August 2024 uprising that led to the removal of Sheikh Hasina. Hadi later headed the radical group Inquilab Mancha and was campaigning ahead of the 2026 parliamentary election when he was shot in Dhaka. His death has triggered protests, diplomatic friction with India, and concerns over rising political violence as Bangladesh heads towards elections under an interim government.
