The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has released a list of VVIP encroachers on around 700 storm water drains, thereby choking the flow of rainwater and causing disastrous flooding because of heavy rains last week. The list includes tech parks, high-profile builders, private hospitals and developers.
The list includes high-profile names like Wipro, Eco Space, Prestige, Columbia Asia Hospital, Bagmane Tech Park, and Divyashree Villas.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has stated that evictions notices have been served and all illegal structures will be cleared in the coming weeks, irrespective of whether they are owned by common people, businesses or tech companies.
BBMP identified 696 areas in the city where buildings encroached on stormwater drains, thereby choking the flow of rainwater. Of these, the maximum number of encroachments (175) is in Mahadevapura.

One of the challenges before the BBMP officials is the demolition of a residential apartment building in Mahadevapura, which is allegedly interrupting the flow of rainwater into the storm drains. Civic officials said eviction notices have been sent to the homeowners in Mahaveer Regal apartment, but there has been no response yet.
