Winter session of Telangana Legislature to be stormy as BRS opposition gears up to challenge government on failed promises.
The Winter session of the Telangana Legislature commencing on Monday (December 9) is likely to be a stormy affair with the main opposition BRS gearing up to corner the government on its failed promises on the farm sector.
It became clear that the BRS was in no mood to accept the achievements of the one-year rule of the Congress government was evident at the party’s Legislature Party meeting held at the Erravalli farm house of former CM K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday afternoon. At the meeting, the BRS decided to corner the government on the forcible land acquisition for proposed pharma village in Lagcherla and 20 other places and failure to implement Dalit Bandhu scheme. The poor hygienic conditions in the State-run hostels and schools would also be highlighted.
The Congress on its part is all set to highlight what it calls the ‘good work’ it had done in the last one-year by fulfilling almost all the major promises it had made. The government is sure to speak about how it has set a record in farm loan waiver, crop bonus, employment generation with over 50,000 jobs, fulfilling major promises under six guarantees. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has already indicated that he would present a factsheet about the government’s performance with facts and figures to buttress the opposition charge of failing to fulfil promises.
The session is likely to discuss the proposed Telangana Farmers Right on Land and Pattadar Passbooks Act, envisaging litigation-free process for farmers, who faced difficulties following the Act introduced by the previous government.
The BJP legislature party also met under the leadership of its floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy and formalised its strategy to be adopted during the session.
Earlier, in the day, Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy along with Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu and Council Chief Whip Patnam Mahender Reddy held a meeting with officials to review the arrangements. Chief Secretary Santhi Kumar, DGP Jithender and senior police officials attended the review meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, the Speaker and Council Chairman urged the officials to come prepared with all the information sought by the members. They said all the pending information sought by members in the last session should be furnished in this session without fail. They suggested appointing one nodal officer from each department to coordinate with the legislators, who seek information on certain subjects. They urged members to conduct the proceedings in an orderly manner to discuss public issues and thus benefit the people.
