Defence lawyers for Jeremy Skibicki have told the court the accused unlawfully caused the death of four women, but argue he is not criminally responsible due to mental disorder.
This has prompted the Crown to consent to a judge alone trial, rather than a jury trial.
The court heard Monday morning the trial will now hinge on Skibicki’s mental capacity and intent in the killings.
Skibicki was charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of four Indigenous women.
The trial is set to proceed with judge alone on Wednesday.
